White Sox take close one from Tigers

The Chicago White Sox beat the Detroit Tigers in 11 innings yesterday in a hard-fought game of baseball. You never know what you’re going to see at a baseball game, and an MLB extra-innings game is always a possibility. It was a solid match that aficionados with White Sox tickets won’t soon forget. White Sox pitcher Sergio Santos (1.53 ERA) got the win, while Jose Valverde (2.81 ERA) took the loss for the Tigers. Freddy Garcia went 6.2 solid innings for the White Sox, allowed 5 hits, one home run and one earned run with 4 walks and 4 strikeouts. Also pitching for the White Sox was Matt Thornton (2.36), J.J. Putz (1.79), and Bobby Jenks (5.13). The Tigers’s starter Max Scherzer went 7 innings, allowed 8 hits, no home runs and 2 earned runs with 2 walks and 7 strikeouts. Phil Coke (2.60), and Robbie Weinhardt (4.50) also pitched for the Tigers. With the win, Santos’s record goes to 1-0, while Valverde is at 1-3.

Mark Kotsay provided much of the offense for the White Sox with an incredible 4 runs batted in. In addition to the 6 runs, the White Sox scored 13 hits and committed no errors. Mark Kotsay led the White Sox in hitting with 3 hits, followed by Paul Konerko’s 2 hits, and Juan Pierre with 2. The Tigers didn’t have anyone with a big night with not one batter getting more than 2 hits. Brennan Boesch could not get much going at the plate as he left 4 runners on base. The Tigers scored 4 runs, 8 hits and no errors.

Umpiring duties were performed by Larry Vanover, Jeff Nelson, Mark Carlson and Jeff Kellogg. There were 34,156 Tigers ticket holders in attendance at Comerica Park.
