The Detroit Tigers destroyed the Cleveland Indians yesterday at Progressive Field with the Tigers securing the victory 11 to 3. It was a great baseball game that fans with Tigers tickets will remember for quite some time.
Tigers pitcher Rick Porcello (4.14 ERA) got the win, while Justin Masterson (4.79 ERA) took the loss for the Indians. Rick Porcello went 5 innings for the Tigers, allowed 6 hits, no home runs and one earned run with 3 walks and one strikeout. Also pitching for the Tigers was Ryan Perry (4.11), Zach Miner (4.36), Jeremy Bonderman (9.00), and Fu-Te Ni (2.76). The Indians’s starter Justin Masterson went 4 innings, allowed 7 hits, 2 home runs and 6 earned runs with 3 walks and 4 strikeouts. Mike Gosling (5.57), Jose Veras (5.51), Jess Todd (9.33), and Rafael Perez (7.16) also pitched for the Indians. With the win, Porcello’s record goes to 14-9, while Masterson drops to 4-9.
Carlos Guillen provided much of the offense for the Tigers with an incredible 4 runs batted in. In addition to the 11 runs, the Tigers put up 15 hits and committed no errors. Carlos Guillen led the Tigers in hitting with 3 hits, followed by Ramon Santiago’s 2 hits, and Miguel Cabrera with 2. The Indians didn’t have anyone with a big night with not one batter getting more than 2 hits. Asdrubal Cabrera could not get much going at the plate as he left 5 runners on base. The Indians got 3 runs, 9 hits and one error.
Umpiring duties were performed by Paul Nauert, Joe West, Ed Rapuano and Paul Schrieber. There were 13,971 Indians ticket holders in attendance at Progressive Field.
The win puts the Tigers at a record of 81-70, at the top of their division, while the loss brings the Indians to 61-90, (20 games behind the division leader). The Indians will try to return the favor tomorrow. There are still plenty of tickets available so take a look.
