The Detroit Tigers got a tough win over the Minnesota Twins yesterday at Comerica Park with the Tigers victorious 6 to 5. It was a huge win that rooters with Tigers tickets aren’t likely to forget.
Tigers pitcher Justin Verlander (3.45 ERA) got the win, while Brian Duensing (3.69 ERA) took the loss for the Twins. Justin Verlander went 8 solid innings for the Tigers, allowed 8 hits, no home runs and 4 earned runs with no walks and 8 strikeouts. The Twins’s starter Brian Duensing went 4.2 innings, allowed 7 hits, one home run and 5 earned runs with 3 walks and 3 strikeouts. Bobby Keppel (4.70), Ron Mahay (4.44), Jesse Crain (4.66), and Matt Guerrier (2.33) also pitched for the Twins. With the win, Verlander’s record goes to 18-9, while Duensing drops to 5-2. Fernando Rodney earned the save for the Tigers, bringing his saves up to 36.
In addition to the 6 runs, the Tigers put up 12 hits and committed no errors. It wasn’t a huge day for anyone at the plate for the Tigers, as nobody managed more than 2 hits. Orlando Cabrera had the most hits for the Twins (3), followed by Jason Kubel (2), and Denard Span (2). The Twins mustered 5 runs, 10 hits and no errors.
Umpiring duties were performed by Lance Barksdale, Paul Emmel, Angel Hernandez and Randy Marsh. There were 30,240 Tigers ticket holders in attendance at Comerica Park.
The win puts the Tigers at a record of 84-73, still leading their division, while the loss brings the Twins to 82-75, (2 games behind first place in the division). The Twins will try to get a game back from the Tigers tomorrow. There are still plenty of tickets available so take a look.
