The Detroit Tigers barely got a “W” over the Cleveland Indians yesterday at Progressive Field with the Tigers winning 3 to 1. It was quite a game that followers with Tigers tickets will be talking about for days.
Tigers pitcher Edwin Jackson (3.25 ERA) got the win, while Aaron Laffey (3.93 ERA) took the loss for the Indians. Edwin Jackson went 7 solid innings for the Tigers, allowed 7 hits, no home runs and no earned runs with 3 walks and 2 strikeouts. Also pitching for the Tigers was Bobby Seay (3.70), and Brandon Lyon (2.94). The Indians’s starter Aaron Laffey went 6.2 innings, allowed 7 hits, one home run and one earned run with 3 walks and no strikeouts. Chris Perez (4.35), and Tony Sipp (3.13) also pitched for the Indians. With the win, Jackson’s record goes to 13-7, while Laffey falls to 7-7. Fernando Rodney earned the save for the Tigers, bringing his saves up to 34.
In addition to the 3 runs, the Tigers managed 8 hits and committed no errors. Magglio Ordonez led the Tigers in hitting with 3 hits, followed by Ryan Raburn’s 2 hits. Miguel Cabrera had a tough day at the plate, leaving 4 runners on base. Shin-Soo Choo had the most hits for the Indians (3), followed by Trevor Crowe (2), and Michael Brantley (2). Luis Valbuena could not get much going at the plate as he left 5 runners on base. The Indians managed one run, 10 hits and no errors.
Umpiring duties were performed by Paul Schrieber, Paul Nauert, Joe West and Ed Rapuano. There were 23,217 Indians ticket holders in attendance at Progressive Field.
The win puts the Tigers at a record of 80-70, at the top of their division, while the loss brings the Indians to 61-89, (19 games behind the division leader). The Indians again take on the Tigers tomorrow. There are still plenty of tickets available so take a look.
